in that innocent sleep of yours
when a dream begins to run
call me over behind the curtains
of your eyelids – but careful -
these dreams are made of glass
they may pierce your eyes
usher them in
on the cushion of your lashes
may be then they will stay
unbroken in your eyes.
…..
once again the night returns …
once again I’ll be seeing you …

Rom rom tera naam pukare
Ek hue din rain hamare
Humse hum hi cheen gaye hain
Jabse dekhein nain tihare
Teri kaali akhiyon se jind meri jaage
Dhadkan se tej daudoon sapnon se aage
Ab jaan loot jaaye
Yeh jahan choot jaaye
Sang pyar rahe main rahoon na rahoon
Saanjana…..
Saanson se dil sil gaye
Palkon mein chhupa loon
Seene mein sama loon
Mere ang ang rang mera bole

Oh jo bhi mila woh kho gaya, tujhko pata hai, aisa hi sada hota hai
Jana hi tha woh jo gaya, phir to akela, aise hi bhala rota hai
Bhule jo hain tujhko unko bhul ja tu bhi

Bajaj Auto decided to look more into the future than the past. Company announced today that it is stopping making scooters. A whole generation grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s, dreaming of owning it. Bajaj scooters (Chetak, Super), one of the aspirations of the Indian middle class for decades, will soon be part of history. There was a time when getting delivery of Chetak used to command waiting periods of years, so much so that then Chairman Rahul Bajaj even dared the Indian Government to arrest him for exceeding government permitted production limits. Those who remember India before her economic liberalization will probably feel pangs of nostalgia, hearing this announcement. I do.
Bajaj’s first scooter model Chetak was launched in 1972 and remained its flagship model right until the 80s. Then came Super and M-50. Before that it used to sell Vespa 150, under license from Piaggio of Italy. My uncle (Aiyyappan Pillai) had a Vespa 150 scooter (KLA 4123) – blue color. During weekends and holidays, he used to take both me and my brother for rides in and around our town. My brother and I learned our first lessons of sharing on that scooter – sharing the pillion seat. Later he bought LML Vespa and gave Vespa 150 to his youngest brother (my youngest uncle). I remember the first solo-ride. It was done without the knowledge of its new owner. I was so excited, so excited that I cannot even recollect all those scoldings showered on me by its new owner. Time flies …
Who from India can forget this ad? Wasn’t this ad who connected many in India to the word “Hamara“?
Many years went by …, quite fast. I found this pocket calendar of the year 1994. And circles I marked around few dates makes me feel the year 1994 was eventful.
